Warner Bros. lands 'Landover'

Warner Bros. is looking to make some magic, optioning Terry Brooks' "Magic Kingdom of Landover" series of books for Akiva Goldsman's Weed Road Pictures and Andy Cohen's Grade A Entertainment. Goldsman and Cohen will produce with Weed Road's Kerry Foster and Alex Block overseeing for Weed Road. The film will be based on the first book in the series "Magic Kingdom for Sale -- Sold!," first published in 1986. It's the story of a recently widowed lawyer who finds an advertisement in an upscale Christmas catalog claiming to offer a magical kingdom for $1 million by a man named Mr. Meeks. After he purchases Landover, he discovers he must unite the kingdom's denizens and creatures to stop an evil demon bent on destroying the realm. Other titles in the series are "The Black Unicorn," "Wizard at Large," "The Tangle Box," "Witches Brew" and the most recent title, "A Princess of Landover." Project was previously set up at Universal, which acquired the rights to the series in 2005 for Stephen Sommers to direct, and tapped Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel to adapt the first book.
